Poster Presentation: Effect Of Packing Fraction on Permeability Of Powders For Pharmaceutical Processes

This insightful poster, to be displayed on the 19th of March in the session "Excipients and raw materials", explores the impact of packing fraction on the permeability of powders in pharmaceutical processes. Permeability, a crucial property affecting powder flowability during material handling, plays a vital role in the efficiency of processes like capsule filling, dry powder inhalers, and tablet manufacturing. Existing instruments measure permeability under high consolidation stresses, but certain applications involve low consolidation stresses or low packing conditions, such as capsule filling. The study aims to develop a new methodology for evaluating powder permeability under low consolidation conditions and varying packing fractions. Lactose powders with different shapes and sizes are used in the experimental testing. The research addresses the need to understand how changes in packing fraction influence powder behaviour during pharmaceutical processes, providing valuable insights for optimizing manufacturing efficiency.
