Granutools' team will attend Battery Conference/Batterietagung 2023

The Battery Conference 2023 consists of the German-language Battery Day NRW on April 26.2023 and the international, English-language conference Advanced Battery Power on April 27-28.2023.

During the Advanced Battery Power Conference, companies, research institutes, universities and individuals will present their work and results in the field of battery technology.

Poster Presentation: How mixing influences powder properties for battery manufacturing?

Salvatore Pillitteri, Ph.D., Particle Scientist at Granutools, will present a poster on how mixing time can influence the properties of powder blends used for electrode manufacturing.

The poster is based on the application note “How GranuPack assess carbon black deagglomeration in battery manufacturing”, in collaboration with IPAT (Braunschweig).

For improving battery performance, particular care is paid to electrode production.

At the beginning of the manufacturing process, the active material, the conductive additive, and the binder are often dry-mixed. Depending on the mixing intensity and the mixing time, the powder exhibits different behaviours that give different properties to the produced battery. It is therefore of huge importance to have control over the behaviours of the powder blend after this mixing.

Powders with the same proportion of active material, conductive additive and binder were prepared with different mixing times. We investigated the packing dynamics of such powders with the GranuPack. The mixing time is observed to affect the bulk density and the packing dynamics of the powder.

At the same time, the conductivity of the powder is affected by the mixing time. This change in conductivity is linked to the change in powder bulk density. This investigation highlights the utility of tools for powder characterization during electrode manufacturing.
