Don’t miss our engaging presentations, at PARTEC, exploring Battery, Permeability and Spreadability

Experience innovation at PARTEC as our Particle Scientists deliver three groundbreaking presentations.:

Characterization method of powder blend after mixing procedure for electrode manufacturing

This talk, given by Salvatore Pillitteri, Particle Scientist at Granutools, addresses a crucial challenge in battery advancement for technologies like electric cars. Achieving batteries with high energy and rapid charge relies on electron transport efficiency, often enhanced with conductive additives. However, predicting how these additives influence electrode performance remains complex.

The presentation focuses on understanding how the manufacturing process impacts battery quality. Specifically, it delves into the effects of mixing time on powder blends containing graphite, carbon black, and PVDF. The study reveals that mixing time significantly affects blend conductivity, with tapped density measurements from the GranuPack showing a correlation between conductivity increase and higher powder density.

Ultimately, this research underscores the potential of tapped density measurements as a quality check during electrode manufacturing. Such insights are pivotal as powder quality directly influences electrode properties, thus impacting battery performance.

Correlation between powder air permeability and packing fraction

Explore the presentation on “Correlation between Powder Air Permeability and Packing Fraction” by Marco Lupo.

Powders find applications across industries like pharmaceuticals, food, and additive manufacturing, necessitating precise characterization for process optimization. The behavior of powders hinges on various factors: particle properties, cohesive forces, friction, interlocking, stress, and fluid interaction. Air's impact is significant in fluidized beds, dry powder inhalers, die filling, and pneumatic conveying. In tablet manufacturing, for instance, rapid air removal enhances powder density and tablet quality. Permeability, the capacity to transmit fluids like air, depends on powder porosity and packing conditions. A new approach involves tapping powder beds to induce compaction and evaluating resulting permeability, aiming to correlate industrial packing with permeability. Diverse powders, including various lactose types, were tested, demonstrating a direct link between packing and permeability. This innovative approach seeks to anticipate powder behavior in real processes and enhance process efficiency through air-particle interaction insights.

Comparison between the effectiveness of powder spreading process and the GranuDrum Cohesive Index of polymeric powders at temperatures of the Selective Laser Sintering process

In collaboration with Granutools, Daniele Sofia, PhD, from the University of Salerno will present “Comparing Powder Spreading and GranuDrum Cohesive Index for Polymeric Powders in Selective Laser Sintering”.

Selective Laser Sintering (SLS) is transforming manufacturing, relying on precise powder layering. Sofia's study uses UNISA (a purposely made setup from the University of Salerno) and the GranuDrum instrument to explore layer quality. The GranuDrum Cohesive Index, linked to cohesion forces, aligns with UNISA's layer assessment. This correlation offers promise for predicting powder performance in real 3D printers.
